Local people are becoming increasingly concerned about the dangers in crossing The Parade to get to the car park area and beach, particularly in the area by the Seagull Fishing shop.
Crossing the road eastwards is necessary to gain access to the car park, public toilets, children's play area, the beach and bus stop. Crossing the road westwards is necessary for those in the car park or on the beach, to gain access to the local shops and food outlets.
The suggested location for a pedestrian crossing is shown in red on the map  on  the right.
There has always been problems in crossing The Parade at about this point but the danger has increased recently with the increased use of the children's play area, more traffic, more cars speeding and more people using the beach.
In particular, local parents see the road as dangerous and therefore a barrier to their children using the play area and, as a result, are very reluctant to let them go and play there.
We have written to Kent Highways (part of KCC) along the lines of above, asking a) the criteria used for installing a pedestrian crossing, and b) the process the local community would need to follow to get one installed.
Kent Highways replied as follows:
I would like to inform you that this request is being considered for possible funding for implementation during the financial year 2011/12.  This request is currently subject to the Kent Highway Services Assessment Process and as such funding in not guaranteed at this time.
As the Assessment Process is on-going I am unable at this time to give you any indication of whether its is likely to achieve a high enough priority for funding.
