Bygone Greatstone in Pictures: 1960s

The shops at the east end of Dunes Road were built in the early 1960s as part of widespread development of Greatstone, which continued in to the 1970s, leading to the sizable community it is today.

The boating pool was located in Coast Drive just in front of where the
RNLI Lifeboat Station is today. The site
can be recognised today (2009) by the large areas of concrete. The boating pool was owned by Coatts Enterprises Ltd, who also owned the amusement arcade (just seen on the right of the picture)
and the caravan park at the end of Clark Road (now known as the New Romney Caravan Park)
