Better Facilities for the Disabled

The
Greatstone Residents Alliance have recently launched a campaign to secure better facilities for disabled residents and visitors to Greatstone.

The main aims of the campaign are to secure drop-down kerbs, where they are not already in place, at all road junctions on the Main Road between Clark Road and Hull Road, together with the provision of disabled access to the beach from Greatstone Car Park adjacent to the Multi Use Games Area.

If successful, these simple improvements will have a major impact upon the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves and will thus, greatly assist these people to fully enjoy many of the unique qualities that Greatstone has to offer.

We have already received the support of our local Member of Parliament, The Rt. Hon. Michael Howard, Q.C.,M.P. and are contacting Kent County Council, Shepway District Council, Lydd Town Council and New Romney Town Council to seek their support and any assistance that they are able to provide.

We are please to announce that drop-down kerbs will be installed
by Kent Highways at the Baldwin Road junction during the current financial year which ends in April, 2009.

This follows a preliminary meeting and site review which took place on the 11th October, 2007 between our Chairman, the then Mayor of Lydd John Commerford, the current Mayor of Lydd Vicki Dawson and Mr. Keith Ferrin, the Kent County Council Cabinet Member responsible for Highways. We would also, acknowledge the recent efforts of Lydd Town Council in this regard.
